I'm thinking of swapping the np208 for a np241 and convert it to fixed yoke.
But finding a 32-spline RH-drop with mech. speedo in Sweden,
is pretty much like finding a needle in a haystack:doah:
So I started thinking about interchangeability between RH-drop and LH drop cases...

Are there only two types of input shafts, 27- and 32-splines?
Are all 32-spline shaft the same, so can I get one from a -95 LH drop case, and put it in a -89 RH drop case?

I understand -89 was the first year for the RH drop NP241 and also the last year for the mech speedo in it.

But how about LH drop NP241,
Did they come in -88 with the new body style?
And did they also have a mech speedo at first?

Yeah, and feel free to check out the wanted section...

Yes, there are only 27 spline and 32 spline inputs for the Chevy 241's. There was a change in the gears at some point, I'm not sure when. Those input gears are available and we can get them.

As for the mechanical speedo problem, I have the mechanical speedo stuff for a 241 (came out of my '89 passenger side drop one). PM me if you're interested in that.

PM sent!

But I'm still a little curious if there was a mech speedo on the early LH-drop cases as well(IFS trucks)

I have dissassembled a couple '88 model IFS trucks, and both had electric speedo setups.
I think the holdover mech speedo setups were used in the "R & V" style trucks in '88 and part of '89. I have an '89 burb with electric speedo, and I know there were some '89 models with mech speedo.

I have a 27 spline 241 passenger drop mech speedo so i know they exist.

That I know, it was the driver side drop I was curious about.

Great, thanks!

Is the only reason for the 208-->241 swap the availability of the fixed yoke? A 208 can be converted as well, although a little more involved than a call to Advanced Adapters.

The 241 is an updated t/c; if I remeber correctly, the 208 is a splash lube, whereas the 241 has an oil pump, among other improvements

Both the 208 and the 241 have oil pumps.
But the 241 has a slightly wider chain among other stuff.

Thats the number one reason I'm considering the swap.
But please tell me more about converting a 208, hopefully without needing aluminium tig welding skills...:o

Didn't know advanced adapters even had a 241 SYE-kit.
I was thinking about either getting a JB conversions kit from ORD or fabbing one myself.
