A group of us went to the Badlands on Sunday. Within the first hour my truck was down so I hopped in with one of the youngest guys in the group because he was the only one that had spare room. I seriously thought I was going to die. This kid (I am 25 and he's 21) was doing so many things wrong and I was trying to help him out. Of course he knew more than me (he has never been offroad in his life) and wouldn't listen to anything I had to say. Finally I said no more and I got out and made someone else make room.
While going up a sand dune he bogged down. While backing down the hill to get another run at it he cut the wheel while we were doing about 5mph. I grabbed the roll bar and held on because I was waiting for us to start rolling.
While going up trails he wouldn't let the person in front crest the hill before he would start up after them.
Coming down hills in low range he would hold the clutch in and climb all over the brakes instead of putting it in first. He did listen to me one time and he compression braked the Jeep. He even commented that he had a lot more control doing that than by using the brakes but he never did it again.
He would start up a hill in the wrong gear, realize he was lugging it too much, go to downshift and miss the gear he was trying to grab and it would lurch while going up a 45 degree incline.
I was never so glad to get out of a vehicle in my life.
