Some people...

Typical bullheadedness.

If he can't troubleshoot the electrical system on one of these trucks, I'd hate to have him sit down and try to re-wire an EFI harness :D Electrical is by far the easiest thing to do on these trucks!

Welcome to SS.

A recently departed member there, while apparently a great and knowledgeable person, used to just rag on anyone who wanted to modify THEIR MV in any way...I didn't like him one bit.

Use that site as a source of info for the MV specific stuff...everything else you're better off here.

Oh, and this summer when I destroyed a battery and had to fix the fusible link and figure out what I had done? Guess who helped me? smalltruckbigcid here and no one over there had any sort of usable advice. Just lots of babble, random talk, and "we'll get back to you later."

wow kenny you had your hands full over there, i read thru that...some went your side, some werent changin or listening to what you were saying. i did the conversion and so far so good, i only did it yesterday but its doing good...thanks

Not as amusing as the thread about mounting license plates, how people didn't want to "drill holes all over" their trucks, resulting in removing the pintle hitches (which I find to be one of the most useful things on the truck) and fabricating crazy bracketry to avoid holes. Yeesh. Couple of self-tapping sheetmetal screws did the trick for me.

While everyone is entitled to their opinion, the "full restoration" and "don't mod it" guys crack me up. What I find really hilarious is when they want people to "save" various military vehicles out there- cash talks, BS walks, so either put up and buy the things and "save" them yourself, or shut up. I sure didn't buy a 1-ton 4x4 work truck to drive it in freakin' parades.

I've told a number of my friends that if I ever say I don't want to go off road or use my truck for work or whatever for fear of denting, scratching or otherwise busting it up, they should whack me over the head with a 2x4. Because I'll deserve it.

I removed the pintle hook and put a plate lite there and my pa plate, i dont tow at all with it tho..if i did i would of left it and drilled the tailgate....but i needed somewhere to put a lite without tearing it off, my m1008 gets used hard and it runs every day, dents , scratches etc who cares it add charecter to it..i painted everything flat black . Except for the grill and turn signals since that dont look bad.. i noticed that they really dont like opinions at all there...all i have to say is thankyou everyone for all the help...lots rattled me about the 24 to 12 volt conversion, saying its not good to do let it be, but they dont have to buy the parts...it went good and saved me lotsss of money..and for that thanks again...

Glad to hear it went well man.

I always wondered why they didn't use more off the shelf GM parts for the 24 volt system considering how it is setup as two sets of 12v components adding together to be 24v...just seems like they could have done it easier, cheaper, and more conveniently than they did...asked that once over there and got a lecture about the superiority of the CUCV setup...:surepal:

It starts up exactly the same, doesnt sound any different. my truck had a missing card and blown glow plugs...my other question is i have the relay jumpered to heat my new 12 glow plugs up, i put all new connectors and made sure that all that is good....when its under 30 out its a bitch to start...are the rest like that...?

Below 30 deg any diesel can be harder to start... that is why they make block heaters. However you should be ok with 8-10 seconds of glow plug warm up time if you have 60g's or kennedy quick heats. Getting down to 20 and below I would definitly plug it in overnight.

What kinda block heater do you suggest..? I looked at one that goes in heater hoses from advance auto, also have one that goes in the freeze plug but if id go that route are the freeze plugs hard to get to..... Thanks again for your help...........some reason i think they are are 14g..

The freeze plug models work, but the heater hose model will circulate the coolant and defrost your windows as well ;)

The freeze plug one for a 6.2 is 29.00 and the heater hose model is 40.00....but heater hose model is much easier to get to and you right it will circulate the coolant, thats the choice i think..

WOW! That's the most animosity I've seen over there:eek1: From two knowledgeable and usually very nice guys.:confused:

It's still the best site for military vehicles I've found.

I'm surprised you got that reaction.

I guess my telling them you are a Commie didn't help!:haha:

My old 60G's would easily take double the glow time my Quick heats do. In the low 20's to high teens I'd need 15 seconds of glow, and 3/4 throttle to start (without block heater) My quick heats glow maybe 8 seconds at those temps and do fine.

Quick is nice, but I feel they do not last anywhere near as long as the AC 60G's did.
