Some problems with mile marker np203 kit

I am having some problems with the install. The tailshaft locks down when I tighten the tail housing bolts. This is without any shims on the tailshaft. I have a 73' with the one piece tail housing. It seems that I might have to plasma cut a shim out to move the tail housing away from the main case. Anyone else have this problem? I whish I had me a 400/205 but this is just A beater truck that I am leaving stock. I have plenty of experince with mechanical things but this transfer case is kicking my rear end.

my guess is re-check everything, something is either out of place or in the wrong order.
