Someone RIPPED OFF my Mechanic!!

I just dropped off my truck yesterday at my mechanic's, he's an older guy that has his shop in his garage, and is the best and most reasonable guy. He was going to put in my new 4.10's and Eaton Posi, but he called me today and told me he can't do it now cause someone stole his briefcase with all his guages and tools he needs to do the swap right! It was worth 2500$! And what really sucks is that now I have to take it to a differential specialist who wants to charge me 800$ instead of the 450$ I was going to spend before! I'm pissed, I hate thiefs!

I shopped around and found a place that did my gears for $180 on a D44. They work primarily on big rigs but did a fine job on the 3/4 ton stuff.

I usually charge $150 per axle.

at 800 i would buy the tools an do it myself....
it would cost less. if you put gears i yourself it may take a while, but it is FUN.
kinda anyway. if you burn up those gears you will have to pay for it, but if you go slow then it is easy. and be patient.. how ever you spell it.

on the other hand, see if you can get the tools,(lower quality than your mech had, they wont cost to much) and if he can help you do it.

Well is your mechanic insured if so Im sure hell be getting replacement tools soon If ou have found a good reliable mechanic Id wait and see if he gets them replaced.
