I finally had the chance to get the new burb in some mud and something is grinding in the front D44. It sound to me like it is coming out of the diff but not sure.
My question is, could this be somekind of locker the previous owner installed? I was told that some lockers make alot of noise when engaging?

It did seem that it only started when my rear end began to loose traction. At this point, I did not have it in 4 wheel drive thought. Is a 76 burban an all wheel drive? I have noiced during hard turns I get tension in the steering like it is locked into 4.

It is a 3/4 ton with d44 and 14bff?
Any ideas or trouble shooting I can do?
Thanks guys.

If your burb's tcase is still the full time 203, check that your front driveshaft isn't binding to cause that noise, also check your front ujoints.

Also since its old , pull the front cover , if its fine in there you are changing the fluid and concentrating elsewhere ..... but missing teeth can make a grinding too , and a real bad bang sometimes messing the steering up or feeling like steering resistance .

depending on how much lift you have it may be the front driveshaft rubbing on the crossmember. mine did it with a 6 inch lift.

no lift but new 33s with fender trimming

plan on looking it over this weekend with the tips so far unless something else comes up

I feel stupid! It was the fan hitting the fan shroud when the body would twist and motor torqued. Thanks for the help though.

been there done that, knew what it was though, heard it on other friends trucks.

Kinda a crazy sound, time for new motor mounts :D
