Today was a good day. The fedex dude stopped by my house with a new project for me to start working on before i go back to school. I've been doing some research and making a lot of phone calls and after figuring out which route i wanted to go with for my doubler, i opted for the D.D. Machine 241 kit. It showed up today, and this thing is definitely a nice piece. Everything looks solide and i cant wait to start cutting up the 241 and getting it all welded up. Duffy was more then helpful and shipped in a reasonabl time. Anyways just thought i would share, so here are some pics of the kit.

i don't understand why you'd cut a 241 for a doubler...

The weak point on a 241 is the front output part of the case and the chain. This doubler eliminates all of that stuff.

Basically, the 241 doubler is very close to NWF's Black Box but it uses part of the front half of a 241 and is ~1/3 the cost. The 4 speed Atlas and Klune V also use the same NV241 6 gear planetary set to get their reduction.

Because you just use the front portion where the planetary gears are, the rest of the chain driven stuff is not needed. It is similar to like a black box from nwf, or a klune-v i guess.

i thought they stopped making thosse

well according to Duffy, as of last week he had a couple on the shelf still, and just needed to make the block off plates. As you can see, my block off plates arent cut or tapped, since i asked for them that way, so i can play around with it in the machine shop at work.

K5 crawler, what t-case are you running behind the 241 crawler box?

The 205 would have be the ultimate choice, but there was shifter clearance problems according to Duffy and others. So for now it will be a 300, which i understand is not the strongest case behind a fullsize rig, but i have one waiting for me down at a buddies tranny shop that i picked up for next to nothing, and the overall length with both of the cases mated together shouldnt be too much longer, if any then my 208 with a slip-yoke. Also i was told that a 300 is possibly stronger then a stock 208/241, so we will see.. Hopefully when i save up enough coin i can throw an atlas or stak behind it, similar to what DPI did, that would be my ultimate goal, but since funds dont exactly allow for that to happen right now i had to make do with what i had available.

Let me know if you need some help. Also I got an in to the Sierra Stompers meetings. I guess with all this work your not up to a Aug 22nd Rubicon run?

Awesome news, it will be nice to have another fullsize chevy in the group. Ya, i would like to go with the K5, but its no where close to being a 4wheel capable rig yet. I would love to ride passenger with someone though if they have an extra seat. I'll have to call Jake up to get the info. Are you going to the meeting on the 7th?

Could you measure the length of your shifter rod for me?

I'm making a (241 or 231)/205 and I'm building the adapter myself.

I thought the next meeing was the 9th for some reason? If it's the 7th, no I have a meeting that night and my wife has a Lyon county commissioners meeting.

7th it is - nope.

And it's drilled and tapped for a bolt, right? Basically its retained through a hole in the adapter?
Yea, exactly.. if you need me to snap some pics i can get it done for you whenever.
