Little back ground first,The truck has a 12 bolt with a gov bomb.A few months ago I had to replace all the carrier bearings and I took it to a friend at the gm dealer ship look at the gov bomb (not knowing much about this one in particular) just to make sure it was ok and not to have any issues in the future. All went together fine and been driving it most of the time,No worries.

So day before yesterday I was backing out of the drive way(set for 3 days) and the truck did not want to move it seemed that the emergency brake was on(It was not first thing I did before I went into reverse) so I pulled forward it moved and then I went back into reverse it made a pop and the rear end sounded like it twisted up then pack down I drove it and never heard a thing since.:confused:

My thoughts are
Emergency brake stuck??
Bad spot on the ring and pinion (looked good when it was apart)
transfer case binding

Any other thoughts????

If it drives fine now, then my guess would be the break sticking. If you have any doubts, then pop the cover and look for damage.

Were you turning at the same time. If so the strain of the wheels being turned and the gov bomb was probably stuck lock. So u got the feeling of not wanting to move. And when she made a noise it was the gov bomb unlocking. I know the gov bomb in mine stays locked sometimes and what a handful it is to turn and move then when in 2wd. Just an idea.
