I'm used to newer vehicles and haven't owned or worked on an older vehicle in a while so I am learning a lot in my 40's.

I just bought an 88 K5 and it needs a lot of undoing of crap that previous owners have done to it. I'm trying to attack it in groups.

1. Dash wiring including a non-op radio. I think I've fixed that now.
2. A/C and Heat. I'm working on this now.
3. Removing cheap dangerous lift and installing a lower safer lift.
4. Cosmetics.

So back to #2.

On the dash I had NOTHING. No fan speed, high or low. Nothing. On a hunch I replaced the mode selector switch and still nothing. I got a new blow motor resistor and installed it today. Bam! I have fan speeds. Not much on the blend door. I found the vaccum unhooked so I ran a new line to the intake manifold source. I now have defroster and floor blowing hard. Not much out of vents so I will address that under the dash later hopefully.

I was out there with the fan on high and all of a sudden everything turned off and went silent. My pops touched the large purple wire going from the A/C relay on heater box to the blower motor. When he touched that wire, it came back on. I walked over and started fiddling with it. I can move the wire at the relay and the blower motor connection and it will interrupt the fan blowing.

At one point while re-connecting the wire to the blower motor I heard an arc or spark sound like a pop but it was still working. My question is this: If this wire is bad or the connectors at the relay and blower motor are bad, would this be a failed part at that source or could it be a ground or hot wire elsewhere? Electrical is not my forte.

I looked and they don't make or sell that connector new and there are no squares in junk yards near me. Should I replace that blower motor relay on the heater box? I can maybe de-pin at the relay and run a new 10ga(?) wire from the relay to the blower motor?

If it is happening when you touch the wire/connector then the problem is most likely there.

Could be the wire is broken - find and repair.
Could be a loose terminal - replace or bend back in shape.
Could be bad/melted connector - replace.

Most connectors are available. Might post some pictures so someone can help you locate the correct one.

Is probably the high blower relay they get hot and melt after awhile. esp if blower motor is old.

Bad ground in that area also causes all sorts of issues.
