DO NOT buy another crank. Have your crank fixed by a COMPETENT crank grinder.

His words "we were able to save the crank" I dont know if that means they turned it, and now are going to run a an under sized bearing? Or if he is blowing smoke up my ass.

You need to ask them what they did and how they "saved" it. If the trust surface was damaged there are two ways of going about repairing it. The first is to weld the surface up and then regrind the thrust surface back to factory specs and the next would be to grind the thrust surface wider to accept the oversize thrust bearing that is available. Ask them to show you the repaired crank and take pics of it if you can and post them here.

When the thrust bearing goes bad, will it take out the crank instantly? or will it take awhile? Because like i said this motor has very few miles on it, im guessing around 50miles, not including Idle time in the driveway.

Just got off the phone with him. he said the crank didnt get damaged.

his words "Very rarely does the crank not receive damage from this, but yours was not damaged. If it was damaged i would tell you"

I guess im going to take the torque converters that i have in the garage to a tranny shop, and see if they can tell me which one is in the best condition, and which one to use.

Replace the tranny cooler lines to the radiator, and make sure that my remote tranny cooler is not clogged.

About the engine ground strap.. .2/0 cable with 3/8s copper lugs should be sufficient shouldnt it? Ill make sure all those connections are clean.
 
Talked the tranny shop who built my trans, he said the Th350 doesnt have a ballooning problem. So im thinking it is a cooler return line issue, and the front pump is pushing the T/c out?
 
I'm gonna go with machine shop builder problem, something wasn't installed correctly, they don't wanna admit to it. :wink1:
 
Unless the crank thrust surface was too rough when the crank was machined it is not a failure point of the machine shop.

DO NOT install a used torque convertor, they are cheap enough to buy a NEW or remanned one to eliminate the possibility of another failure (assuming it was a bad convertor) and I would also be questioning the reputation of your trans shop as well with their comment about a TH350 not having a "ballooning" problem. ANY trans can have this issue at anytime.

My buddy had his trans done there, and it held up great over the years, Mine was also done there, and like the motor, doesnt have very many miles on it. It seemed to do just fine behind my old 350. I sold that 350 to a guy, he swapped it in and it ran fine ie, no thrust bearing failure.

To be honest i dont trust any shops anymore lol,

I guess all thats left to do is replace the things i mentioned, and run it, and see what happens. If i have another problem, Ill get a manual trans and a damn gm crate motor lol. I just want to wheel, is that too much to ask? :haha:

Started the engine about an hour ago, and it doesnt sound right...

When i was priming the motor, with a drill, Oil pressure came up. I spun the oil pump and kept the oil pressure at 30-60psi for a couple minutes, i never saw oil spew from the pushrods.

So i figure ill start it up and see if oil sprays from the pushrods while its running. Nothing, not a drop. And it really sounds like the valve train is making noise.

Im pretty sure the lifters should pump up fairly quickly, and the pushrods should be spurting oil.

I only ran it for maybe 30 seconds to a minute, twice. No idea where to go from here...

I tack welded the pick up tube to the pump, 6 quarts of oil including filter. 10W40 napa gold.

when it was running it instantly jumped to 60 psi, and stayed...

Any ideas where i should look?

Oh and, i havent bolted the torque converter up yet. :D
 
If you don't have any oil to the pushrod/rockers then the engine is probably missing one or all of the three little galley plugs in the front of the engine behind the cam gear.

so remove timing chain cover, timing chain, and cam gear. Thats where i need to check first?

damnit.
 
Im going to go try and run the drill for awhile, and see if it gets some oil up there. I was reading a thread on a camaro forum and it said it could take awhile.

I was reading another thread on a different site that said, a guy lost one of those plugs, and he also lost oil pressure?... I have good pressure.

I just ran that drill for awhile, and it got oil up to #8 #7 and half of 5 until the battery on the drill crapped out. Maybe i just need to keep drilling, and see what happens. I hope so :P
