sound system

Just use ebay, search for whatever brand you like best, "Pioneer, Alpine... etc.." and "head unit" and you should find some pretty good deals. Same thing with speakers, search for the brand name you want and what size speakers.

Also, when I ran the wiring for my stereo I completly ignored the old harness. I wouldn't really use that If you didn't have to. Nobody wants a nice $200 head unit running though wires that are 20 years old and falling apart. Doesn't really make much sense.

It only takes a few minutes to run new wires, just follow the diagram in the manual. One wire runs strait to the battery, another to your fuse block, and one as a groud. The rest are just speaker wires (all color coded) so its really a pretty simple job. That way you don't risk pushing too much power though those worn out wires.

Sorry to Hijack, but how did you not have to cut your dash to fit a cd player in there.

Ummm.... I took the gauge trim off, took the nuts off of the back, bottom, and side, pulled the radio out, put the new radio in the install kit, put the studs from the old radio on the install kit, bolted it in. 85 K5 Silverado. I have seen the older style dashes on different models depending on trim level. My 85 Silverado and a 91 Scottsdale(read base model) have the same opening. A big rectangular hole. The radio opening varies like everything else on these trucks.
