Do the rear Silverado emblems require gaskets to reinstall? It looks like mine have some seriously old hardened rubberized crap under them?

If so, where can I source those? LMC doesn't seem to list them?

I'd look at a parts store for gasket making material, and just trim my own.

No idea why they were there, perhaps to prevent paint wear/rust? Even the front fender ones have "gaskets" but the ones I have are just a hard-ish piece of black plastic.

Wasn't a gasket but a two sided sticky foam. Hard to explain but one side stuck to the emblem and the other to the truck. They came already attached to the emblem and the other had peel off tape for sticking to the truck. They still used pins as well.
I have some NOS ones if you need a photo for an idea how to do it. Dont think it be too hard just real time consuming/brain numbing to cut out the foam to match...

Just throw some good 3m double stick mounting tape on the back.

Yup. In fact, it's how all the car manufacturers mount most of the trim these days. That stuff will last for years if put on right. Just wipe surfaces with alcohol prior to sticking.

Not only is it how emblems are mounted now, i'm pretty sure a lot of our emblems were also mounted in a very similar way.

Main difference being that the old emblems had posts on teh back, and the new ones don't.

I used black RTV once on a cars emblem for the trunk that fell off. It's all I had at the time, I figured I'd see if it stuck. It did, for the few years I had it and then I traded it it for another car. Never fell off.

i have a question, what's with the "soup" in all the thread titles?
