I know that people here have done this, and I have searched, the problem is that the pics that were posted are not showing up. I need some pics of tire carriers using a front hub. I want to do this for my K5 when I build the new bumpers for it. I am thinking about doing a tire carrier with some extras, and on the other side setting up a mount to hold a couple of jerry cans. I like the hub idea because it eliminates the noise from the bracket on the tailgate. I had an S10 Blazer that had the external mount and the vibration and noise was too much to bear. So those of you who have done this mod please post pics so I can see them.

I prefer the fold-down stinger style, like DPI's and Dontoes...

I'm gonna do something similar to DPI's, but without the light guards...

Not the best photo, but it's all I have handy. I cut the end off a rear axle.

I like that style as well except for the loss of visiblity out of the rear window.

yeah I was gonna do a X on my rollbar and put a hub, however I didnt want to kill my rear view

I used a 3000 lb. trailer spindle and hub for mine and it lasted about a year then it broke. The spindles and hubs that Rock Logic (and similar places) sells are based on 2000 lb pieces and will break even easier. It may be OK if it's mostly used on pavement and a 35" or smaller tire. I would recommend going with something different or adding a hinge directly above the spindle to keep the sideload/bending load off of the spindle.

Well I am thinking more of a swing out style, similiar to the stock style that would have been there. Use a locking hub to lock it into the open/closed position. I have seen a couple of people doing it here, just need some pics and ideas for setting this up. The verticle would interfere when I have my trailer connected.

Yes that's what I am looking for. How did you set it up in the back there? I am planning on building my own front and rear bumpers, and want to do something like this to hold my spare tire. It will open up so much room inside.

That's a cool idea, nice work! I've never seen or heard of doing that before, should be plenty strong enough to hold everything including the kitchen sink.
