Spare Tire Mount

Quick question. I bought an original spare tire mount and installed it today. Other than the main mount that attaches to the wheel well and next to the tail gate I got a bar that attaches to the top of the mount. Since the PO had an external mount that I removed I'm not sure where an extra bar goes. It attaches to the top of the mount and looks like it goes towards one of the bolts that holds the hard top on, which is where I currently have it bolted. It seems like this is not quite right. Anyone out there with some help or a pick of how an OEM mount attaches?

Thanks..

You are correct, it goes from the hard top bolt to the top of the spare tire mount. Mine's got a slotted hole on the tire mount side to make mounting easy, but you have to make sure to snug it up.

It just looks so wrong and unstable. Of course I see no other point to mount it to.

Unstable? That's odd. The tire mount is kinda shaky without it, and it's just a simple support bracket. It does look goofy without a tire mounted on it though!

I'm a little late to the party, but this might help...

It's a little hard to see in this clip from the LMC catalog, but as already mentioned, the bar fits where you've got it.

meanboyjr that helps a lot thanks! I knew I had seen it somewhere before but the worst part is I couldn't find a single picture or diagram of it....until now. Thanks again.

It does look like it would fit bigger tires. The 31 I have in it fit's great.

35 fits without issue

33 X 12.5 X 15 do not fit.

I'll put my .02 in. :) I had 33x12.5x15s, and they would mount on my spare tire carrier. However, I am surprised that "gray dog" has been able to fit a 35" tire back there. With my 33's, I had to put the mounting bolt through a lug hole and then rotate the tire forward so that the mounting bolt slid up in the channel. This would give me enough space to close the gate, but not much. Sometimes I had to readjust to get the gate to close. When I had 35s on another truck, I did notice that it fit perfectly between the rear seat and the gate if I laid it down in the cargo area. If I stood it up, it hit the gate and the top of the back of the seat. and wouldn't close.

LOL I put mine on right and it would not let the tailgate close.

I took another look at how I mounted the wheel on the carrier itself and realized that I didn't do it quite right but did do it the only way that will work for now. I'm guess the original rims don't have quite as large of a center hole because the mounting disk fits snugly in that hole but then the tire is not held in place. Guess I'll have to find a larger disk to put in there since I have no manufacturing tools at home. Shouldn't be a big problem. I might just need to get a very larger washer and some felt to keep from scratching the rim... Looking back I should have noticed this before but sometimes grandpa's medicine gets in the way of clear thinking!:doah:

You could just run the bolt through a wheel lug hole. That's how I had to do it with the 33" tire back there. Then just be careful when you're spinning the handle on and you can do it without scratching the wheel.

That's how I have it now but something is rattling all over the place and I can't track it down.

That's going to be damn tight/close if it'll fit on the stock carrier. Measure your 35 unloaded (not on the truck) and see what the actual diameter is. Then measure the distance between the top of the seat and the top of the rear gate, as this is where you're going to have the problem, if you have one.

Ive got a 35x12.50 BFG KM2 mounted on the factory ralley rim on my spare mount right now. Works great as long as you dont need the back seat cause mine wont fold up and lock anymore. Keeps people hitchin rides in the blazer though. LOL.

Oh and I just ran the bolt through a lug hole and used a washer and a nut.
