This will be my first time out at Kansas Rocks and I want to make sure I cover the basics. I need a spare tire so I will be going to the junk yard to find a wheel and maybe a tire. I'm not going to be leaving the green trails so I hope I wont need any spare axles and such. Any thing I MUST have before jumping onto some beginner trails?

You should be fine with just a spare. There are so many trucks at frostbite you shouldn't have a prob with getting a hand to get you back to the trailer if you break something.
Most of the green trails can be driven in a stock or close to stock truck. However they become a lot more challenging when its snowy.:woot:

some basics i always have with me on the trail...

duck tape - yup, you know the reasons why. all 1,000,000,000 of em.

zip ties - always handy

tow straps - for obvious reasons

a few wine corks - really only ever needed it once, but it was worth its weight in gold when i did. come in handy as spacers, or to plug holes with. in my case the port on the radiator that the coolant level sensor fits in. battery came loose and knocked it off.

a few small ratchet straps - kinda like duck tape, but have different uses.

nice thing is all of these can be stored in a relatively small space, like the bottom of a tool box with a lift out tool tray.

You'll get bored with the green trails real quick! I say bring the basics like hand tools, some brake cleaner, rags, high lift if you have it, air compressor if you have it, tire plug kit (I don't even carry a spare), chains, straps, etc. I made a list before I go every year and then just make sure I pack everything on my list. I don't think I'm going to make it this year unless I start bending and welding tube like it's going out of style.

I would recommend strongly recovery points. If you have a reciever in the rear a reciever mounted d ring is good and hooks up front as a minimum.

I you do get stuck you dont want to be yanked out by the axle or bumper .lol

as mentioned above , there are 175 + rigs at frostbite usually, you would definately get alot of help out. Are you driving it or trailering it up?

The green trails are done with stock rigs with out too much issues (also mentioned above), but if it is snowy or wet it gets soupy or slick in a hurry, and similar to skiing , move the trail rating up a notch in difficulty, and all those stock rigs can turn the trails into a parking lot. LOL

I havent committed to going yet myself. I am working on rear disc brake conversion and replacing my front axleshafts.

This is the list I go over before a trip. The place we're headed to and whether or not we're camping modifies the list but it's a good one to look over and decide what you think you'll need...
You might laugh at some of it but just on this last trip (the reason I started compiling a list) I bought valve stems randomly at Autozone the night before we left and sure enough the next night when we were wheeling in I lost a bead and it took out my valve stem. Easy enough fix that kept me from having to use my spare and keep the spare for a true emergency such as a cut sidewall.

Sweet, thanks that helps. I'm going to drive out to Gerard the night before to the in-laws house, drop the kids off then head out from there to Frostbite the next day. I'm sure Ill see at least some one out there.

I gotta do a couple of things to the truck before then any ways like re-RTV the T-Case half's it seems to be weeping some oil. Also wheel bearings are on the list as well as a final mechanical shake down of the truck.
