spark plug gap

Have a 86 305, mild cam, /forums/images/graemlins/truck.gif mallory distrib, dual exhaust, etc..., just got a deal on some new splitfire triple platiums from a friend. Cant seem to find the correct gap in my chev book. They are about .45 gap each, will this work? Thanks

Probably not, that's almost 1/2 inch gap. /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif
But I'm sure you meant .045 which should be correct. I'd still check the gap before you install to make sure they're as advertised.

HEI factory plug gap specs were as high as .080", but .035" is much more common. I've noticed no difference between .035 and .050 FWIW, both in performance or economy in a daily driver.
