Spark Plug Wires - UNrecommended :-(

I dont understand why you would change just because of the warranty period? They last a very long time and much longer than most other wires. They are cheaper or the similar price to other wires.

If you go buy Auto Zone or whatever brand cheapies, you'll probably get a similar 90 day warranty. And then you'll more than likely have to replace them after a year or so. Then you'll have more money into wires when you could've just stuck with Taylors that will last.....

I do agree that they should honor your lifetime warranty. You bought a product that had that warranty. Just because the newer stuff is less, they still have to honor the prveiously purchased products.
Because I tend to keep stuff forever. I've had my K5 since 1987, the S-10 since 1992, and the '94 Sub since 1998. :eek1: Taylor wires run close to $60 a set. Autozone will sell ya a set with a lifetime warranty for around $20. Sure, I can't pick out a purty color, but hey, they're under the hood anyway. :wink1:

Taylor agreed that the set that I have came with the lifetime warranty. Talked to the folks at Summit again today and they agreed to swap 'em out. I shipped them out today.

any one using accel spiral race wires? i am using them and one of the connectors is a tad loose but still connects, should i replace them because i understand that they are good wire and i shouldnt have to replace them. :1zhelp: :truck:

That sucks. I, too, have been running Taylor Spiro-Pro for as long as I can remember. I've always replaced mine because they got dirty (usually around the 40,000 mile mark when I do an entire ignition tuneup) and used them as spares or to put on some junker (AKA friend's vehicles) to get it to run.

It sounds like I might have to switch to Accel or something. If they're only going to warrantee them for 90 days then there must be some kind of problem with them.

I bought a set of MSD 8.5mm Superconductor wires for the 5.3L. $60 from Summit. For eight 8" long spark plug wires it seems pretty pricey... but they seem to be pretty high quality. They're about 3/4" too long. Came with a numbering tool but no dielectric grease. :doah:

Not entirely sure about the $15 more than Taylor Spiro-pro I've always used the last 8-9 years... but after my Dad's bad luck with his last set and my poor experience with my last set... then your guys' issues... time for a change.

Also not sure on performance. There was an expensive set of Belden plug wires on it and a set of AC platinum plugs that were in good condition... but rusted into the heads. I replaced them with a set of Bosch platinums. Can't really get a good "seat of the pants" feel since we haven't seen asphalt in a week around here. Seems to idle smoother when cold though but that's probably my imagination. It idles so smooth anyway.

I run MSD heli-core wires, never had a problem with them. I love my whole MSD ignition. But it keeps my alternator busy, draws a lot of power.

I sell Maytag parts , and as of November 14th they went to 90 days warranty . However everything sold up to 5 pm November 13th still has the remainder of the one year warranty on it .

Guess the world is coming down to it everywhere .

It could be a way for corporations to save money .

But then again , its could be the people who don't know what they are doing ruined it for the rest of us by exploiting the warranty when they just replace parts until they figure out what was bad .

See it at parts stores all the time , just keep returning stuff they tried until they fix it .

I use the Autozone wires , and I change them every year for free , except this year , they still looked good .

Still carry some just in case though in my trail box.

I work at a parts store and stupid people are ruining warranty for everybody. wal-mart does not even take electrical items back after 90 days. So what wally world does sets the pace for the entire market. monkey see monkey do. After all that is where we will take anything back aslong as you dont go to our competetor came from anyhow. if you have access to an oreilly's autoparts they sale borg warner taylor core mag wires with a life time warranty. they are realy good wires for a stock application. bosch wires from autozone are on the the same level and I am sure what ever advance auto's life time wire is will be comparable aswell.

Bought some Accel 8.8 wires about 9 years ago for the Camaro, and they still work great. Good luck on the new wires Harry.

i had a set of accel 8.8s on my camaro with an accel super coil after only 2 weeks they were cross arcing all over the place. i highly do not reccomend these wires. i have since switched to moroso wires without a problem.

Lifetime warranty doesn't mean much when it fails at a inconvienent time. Warranties are more of a gimmick nowadays and refelct more upon volume of sales than actual quality.

I've got the same wires and coil on my 79 Camaro. Been in the car since Accel first came out with them. Haven't had any problems yet. And I've put over 60,000 miles on it since.

I got the cut-to-fit MSD 8.5mm superconductors. If you care how your engine looks, Id recommend getting cut to fit wires, cause you can route em around where you dont see em, unlike the either too short or too long wires you get out of the box.
