spark without computer plugged in?

I always thought it needed it ! on this video it shows a test for spark with no comp hooked up-- search for ...chevy pickup no spark no injector spray...you tube. it is at the end of the video-

The computer just makes everything happy! Only a distributorless engine gets it's spark control from a computer......

The computer coltrols injectors, spark advance, etc.......based off the information recieved from the engine.
