sparks coming outta hedder

just built engine for friends dump truck fired it up and was breaking in cam when i noticed a 1 foot flame with sparks coming from passenger side bank {there is just open hedders on no exhaust the sparks resemble sparks when you are grinding steel , any ideas thanks

my guess is a valve is burning, either the lifters are too tight or arn't seated properly. but its just a guess from not seeing it.
