Speaking of Burn outs

So in ColbyStephens build thread he just installed he detroit and was having some fun doing some burn outs, i guess i just have a question about them, becasue of the detroit in the back is he now able to just simply floor it and burn out or where the front tires locked up at the time and how woudl you brake in the front and not the back? Thanks guys

i imagine he is just glad he could do a posi burn out and not just a one legger, and to answer your brake question, maybe he has a line lock, blocks the fluid from going to the rear brakes when you want it to. i think thats what your asking...?

JEGS 63000 - JEGS Stage Control Solenoid Valve

This stage control solenoid valve, also known as Roll/Launch/Brake Control, Line Loc(k), Anti-Roll, and Roll Stop, takes guessing out of the staging or burnout procedure. It was designed by experts to handle high brake line pressure. The valve features high-flow ports with a waterproof 12-volt coil in a solenoid valve, as well as a screened inlet to resist rust contamination common to steel lines. Instead of the usual zinc-plated finish, the housing is powdercoated (black) for long life. The valve utilizes 1/8" NPT fittings. Installation hardware (555-63005) is sold separately or with the valve as a kit. Made in the USA.

Note: Not for vehicles with ABS or split diagonal brake systems
 
A line lock (or roll control, either way its the thing you posted) will hold pressure in either the front or rear brakes. Its very common for drag racing cars to have a line lock in the front, which they set and then smoke the rear tires to heat them up.

By no means do you have to a line lock to do a burn out, but if you don't have one the car/truck will start moving forward and eventually you will just be headed down the road.

The detroit will make burnouts harder because its forcing both tires to spin the same speed regardless of which has less/more traction.
 
Powerbraking. At least thats what we called it when I was a kid.
Apply the brake and the gas at the same time, but dont stomp too hard on the brake. The fronts will lock, and the back will spin.

Yup, brake stands is what we called em. It's not like a line lock is necessary to do one, it just makes it easier.
 
sure the rears will spin on a brakestand but you're pushing through the rear brakes. this way theres no unnecissary wear and heat on the rears.......and its way easier to brakestand without the rears if you don't have adequite horsepower.
 
i had a wheel cylinder leakin on the rear of my old truck. pinched the hose off with a pair of visegrips. worked wonders for burnouts :haha:

BTW i do not recommend this but it works
 
I melted the seals in a eral wheel cylinder doing a brake stand. it was REAL long though. got a couple new tires with nipples still on them from a buddy, slapped 'em on and went to town until I heard steel cords whacking at the inside of the wheel wells.
 
I cant do a burnout normally in my truck, proably a combination of my locker, 373s 33a/t and the fact the the blazers are just plain heavy.

I have crappy brakes as it is...in the vid i posted of me i had turned my brakes WAY in...and when i pulled the drums off afterwards to tighten them up it burned my hand they got so hot.:eek1:

I knew a kid who entered this van in the burnouts at the summer nationals, he did this exact same thing. It does work. :haha:
 
another :not recomended but i do it" trick is to unlock the front hubs and put the truck in low range. This gives you a rear wheel only low range and makes power braking (with or without line lock) very easy. Be warned though that has a habit of blowing up rear u-joints.

Thats how i was able to get those slicsk to trun for that movie...funny how ya do it wehen your not on camera and they can spin like butter. but on they really really sticky:rolleyes:
 
i cheated. i don't have a line-lock yet, but i didn't want to powerbrake so i just tied my truck to trees and telephone poles... it's all cool because you can't tell it's there once you get all the smoke blowin! :haha:
