i found 2 locally. one is low mileage from a chevy. year unknown, with bellhousing and adapter. $1000
also found a worn out one from a 95' dodge with a v10. no price.
what do you think the worn out one is worth?
how much more work will it be to put the dodge one in?
new input shaft?
i want to put it in the cc w/350 and infront of a 203.
or should i keep looking, i am in no hurry.

Why spend all that money for a bling trans and stick with a 203?

As far as $1000 thats just about the going rate as long as its in decent shape. Really the only way to see its in decent shape is to drive it though.

I'm just guessing it will only be a part of the 203, with 205 riding piggyback.

The low 1st gear is not a priority. it's the o/d i 'm looking for.
The doubler out of my k5 will most likely be making it over to the crew cab. it's either a 4500 or a gear vendor o/d on the back of the 205

Buy the best one you can afford. Hard parts for these are getting more and more difficult to find. Many sources are overseas with wildly varying quality. Do not mess with a Dodge unit if you are putting it in a GM. It makes no sense when GM units are available. If you want to find one that needs work, try to find something in good shape (no burned oil smell, internals look good) that might need synchros or bearings. O.e. synchros are currently still available and bearings are available. Beyond that, I would not want to mess with one. Can it be done?? Probably. Will it be worth it?? Probably not.

Check out Quad4x4.com and see just how much stuff is no longer available before you make a decision.

The only reason that i've even been looking for a rebuilder is because i work for a dodge-jeep-chrysler dealer, so factory parts are available, as are the tools needed to rebuild it.
the 1 for $1000 has a 90 day warranty, which is better than nothing, but it would suck to pull it back out if there is a problem. and i would need to install it within the 90 days, and i dont think that would happen.
i'm still considering all my options. like a gear vendor o/d, ranger o/d, or maybe a clark 280.
i really like the g/v but the price is HIGH!
i have found a couple of used g/v's, but they are from 2wd th400s, and i dont know if its economical to make it fit a 205. or if they will sell just the parts that i would need to convert it from a t400 to a 205 style.

The actual GV unit is the same, but uses a differnt adapter and coupler to mate to different trans/cases. You would have to call GV to find out how much the parts to convert it would be. Also, keep in mind that the GV REQUIRES the front yoke to be a slip yoke on the driveshaft.

As far as NV4500 parts go, New Venture was dissolved as a joint entity of GM and Chrysler shortly after Daimler bought Chrysler. American Gear and Transmission bought the rights and tooling for the NV4500 but were unable to get it back into production and in 2007, they sold off all of the tooling and equipment at auction. That means no o.e. parts are being manufactured for the units anymore--for anybody. Try to find parts for the NV5600--pretty difficult, if it is possible at all. There may be a surplus of some parts, but be assured, no parts are being manufactured for them anymore. Obviously, some parts are still available and may be available for some time, but don't bet on what you need to be there when you need it. Also know that if you are building a GM trans, there are a couple tools you will need that are not in the Miller tool kit for the Dodoge NV4500.
