It has a Tang drive, not a square drive. Has anybody ever seen this on a Chevy?

the plastic tang to square adapter should slide off the cable .
some stick on and some fall off super easy .

you will need to transfer it to the new cable end or the speedo cable wont work .
I’m Trying to install my Gearvender overdrive. I’ll have to dig that piece out of my tranny housing, or find a new one!

The Gearvender uses a square drive, my cable is tang drive. My trans has a Bronze drive in the trans, no plastic adapter. looks like I will need to order that plastic adapter.
This is on the transfer case/transmission end? This could be why my speedo doesn't work!!! Doh!
trans / t-case end . this little plastic adapter falls off a lot and people dont know it .

There is no plastic adapter in the transmission. Mine has a bronze piece inside. I Got a replacement Speedo cable with the square drive. Hopefully, that will fix that issue!
