Speedo Cable

Guys the old girl had been sitting a while and I took it out for a drive and notice the speedo jumping around (not showing close to correct speed) at time and sometimes not working at all and other times seems to be close. I suspect a cable issue? Am I going down the right path or does someone have some trouble shooting points to get me in the correct direction... Time to start snowing here in Michigan so time to get the beast in acion.

Yeah, I’ve had those exact symptoms several times that the cable was the culprit

I used wd40 but yes, it needs lubed

So the question with the speedo cable being messed up, when driving around 50ish I can hear in the exhaust resination that the trans is almost like shifting. My question is does the converter lock and unlock based on the speedo some how. As the speedo needle is bouncing around working not working working not working i hear the shifting of the trans which appears to be insink with the speedo

If this is the case how do I bypass this or do I just need to bit the bullet and fix the speedo cable. (speedo is not very important to me at all)

I am pretty sure that will solve it.
Your cable either needs lube (most likely) or is broken and is catching on and off (less likely) causing the fluctuations in speed.
With patience the easiest fix is lube.
If you don’t want to risk doing the job twice if lube doesn't solve it then just change it.
