Well last night my speedo quit working again. I pulled the thing out of the side and it is the gear that the speedo cable slides into.

It failed right where the shaft connected to the gear.

This is the second gear that has bought it in about a month and half and it also failed in the exact same place.

Last fall the clip came out of the gear on the output shaft. I dont thing there is any wrong way to put that back on. Neither gear has shown abnormal wear to the teeth. The last gear looked as if it sheared of at the point and this one you could actually see how it twisted off.

Both times I was going down the highway. Its a stock N/A 6.2 so Im highly doubting its to much horsepower/torque doing this. Although thats what I told my Ford loving buddy.:D

Has anyone else experienced this problem, and does anyone make a hardened poly gear?

I lay bets on a dirty and dry speedo cable binding up and taking the weakest point out (the plastic gear).

Probably it did sit for 6 years. Anyway to relube it or am I going to have to replace it?

You can pull the cable out of the housing, inspect the cable for any frays or kinks, if none exist then you can buy a tube of cable-eze and follow the directions on how to lube it properly.

yanked it out and yep all the grease and stuff that was on there was trashed, it was even sticky in one spot.
