So my speedometer never worked after I swapped in my 205, found out why, like half of the plastic gear is like gone. Does anyone know if I can just get this at the dealership still?

205 has steel speedo gears i just had mine apart. Do you have the little 90 degree adapter? Check that where it goes into the x-case make sure the square peg part of the speedo cable dosent have rounded corners. That was the prob with my adapter, Tossed it out and plugged the cable straight to case

X2 on everything he said. Steel parts on all the 205's I've had apart, and rounded corners on the square pegs - all the time. I usually just take them out and hammer on the peg till it deforms a bit, then hammer it back into it's hole, for a nice snug fit. :D

The later model np205 came with plastic speedo gears which are splined to the output shaft.
The red gear is the later model speedo drive and the two at the bottom is the early model steel speedo gear and spacer.

This picture shows the splined part for the speedo gear (The shaft on the right.)

I have more pictures in my gallery.

You can get the gear at Quad 4x4.

I might have a plastic 205 gear at work. I'll look tomorrow when i get in. It's from a Ford and does have the splines but still should work with your chevy case as long as the shaft is splined as well.

Ok, i just went a took a look at my 205 Chevy speedo drive gear and the Ford gear will not work as the helix of the gear is opposite of a Chevy.
