Ok so ever since i have bought my 1985 Full Size Jimmy with 305/700R4/not sure on transfer case? 208??? anyways the speedometer has never worked so i bought a new gear to go in transfer case and a new cable but neither worked...It worked for maybe three days then went to nothing. Last night i unhooked it from both ends and made sure it wasnt broke or anything and put them back on took it for a test drive and it worked but was very bouncy at first and smoothed out as i drove it more. Then this morning when leaving for school it didnt even bounce or move any. Is it the speedo itself or am i missing something?

sounds like the speedo if the gear and cable are still good. I guess if there's a speed buffer on the back, it could be that too.

if you were closer id give you the speedo from my 82 parts truck, bound to be milions out there, just need one from an 81-89 IIRC for mechanical speedo.

No i didnt even no that you were supposed to lube it...I will look into getting some. Would oreilys have some because all the aces around here closed down.I am also going to call a junk yard when i get home from school to see about getting a speedo and a front drive shaft.

Just about any auto parts store should have some form of speedo cable lube.

k i will definitely get some... do you just pour it down the line or what?

There should be directions on the tube of lube that you buy.

The stuff i have (kable-ease) says to pull the cable about half way out of the housing and then start applying the lube as you are pushing the cable back into the housing.

ok so by housing u are talking about the transfer case side of it right? I bought some at oreillys dont remember the brand...

my 208 did the same thing, it was inside the t-case. Gears weren't making enough contact.
I bought a $100 GPS instead to replace my speedo.
