Always just called it a calibration gear

Not sure about o rings, I didn’t find anything good

I don't think the speedo cable has an o-ring, so this shouldn't need one? I have 2 of those I never made it to installing!

Is that something you are adding to adjust the speedometer? As in screw that on to transfer case then speedometer cable onto the “ calibration gear”?

Mine reads about 7 mph faster than actual speed at 70. according to roadside radar displays. Sounds like an Ez fix.

was on when i got it,[/QUOTE

Holy sheetz. They go for $85 on eBay. I was thinking they would be a bit cheaper. Looks like the correct term is “speedometer Calibration Gear”. What bent said.

the speedo gut on the t-case the unit or just cable goes to is the one with the seal .

so this box is sealed with its own lube . if leaking it needs a reseal or the more comon is the tcase unit .

mechanical reduction to offset tires size for a mechanical speedo... the 1.3000J is the gears inside size. Like Sweet said the box is 2 piece sealed with a gasket. They are greased inside like a ujoint. if you got fluid leaking its from the Tcase itsself

It's pretty easy and cheap to change out the gear(s) in the transfer case. The driven gear on my NP208 cost $8 and only took a few minutes to change. The driving gear (inside) required taking the tail housing off but still was only an hour or two. You just need to calculate the correct ratio for your axle/tire combination and buy that gear or gear set. :waytogo:

One of the old parts stores I worked at had a dusty old wooden box sitting on a shelf in the attic--I opened it up and discovered it was a case containing several compartments, full of gears for those speedometer gear box things..it was labeled "Stewart-Warner"..the inside lid of the box had a calibration chart with all the rear axle ratios and transmission options, tire sizes,so you could choose the right gear combination...
Probably the last ones available to the general public..

I swapped the gears on my '72 K5 's speedo gear box with two from that assortment,to make the speedometer read correctly after I changed tire sizes and put a SM465 in it in place of its original TH350..
Looking back,I should have taken that box home!..boss never knew it was even there,or what was in it,or what the gears were for until I told him..

Mine is metal and they dont remake em, i got the last one from ord might get a spare if they have one

the reason i had it out was to see why the speedo quit working. it is not the cable or the gear so it is in the dash.

Check connect to speedometer as it just clips in. Could use a drill to see if it works from the end of the cable.

yep been way to cold or the wind/ dust has blown too bad will try that today
i took this as it was approaching and the birds didnt show they where tying to outrun the storm, this one turned the sky dark brown all day
