It looks like this style speedometer will not work with a 78. The 78 is mechanical. Anyway to convert this to make it work with a 78?

You can get an 89 speedometer. It’s mechanical and has trip.
You can get a DRAC and NP205/NP241 with the tone ring/VSS, but that seems like an awful lot of work, unless your goal is to get rid of the speedometer cable. Which is admirable lol.
I presume the electronic speedometer is why the LS-swap people want these.

Yep the 6 digit odometer is a dead giveaway for a vss speedo. Though the speedo by itself would be hard to adapt as the vss cluster housing is very different to fit the extra circuit board on the back of the speedo.
Though I’ve found it’s pretty rare if the trip feature works on any of these clusters that have it. Mine don’t. Not sure I’d go too far out of my way to put one in with trip.
One other issue, though it’s purely a visual thing. The font on the trip odometer speedos is different than the ‘78 cluster. It would drive my ocd crazy if the dials didn’t match.
