Ok, who is running them and have they held up? I am going to regear and I figure that is a good time to upgrade the outers.

i run 1541 moser 35 splines with 35 spline warn prems work amazing breaking strength is rated at 10,000lbs PER STUB! lol its crazy beefy i never broke my 30 splines but as they always say GO BIG OR GO HOME! i get tired of breaking my stuff so i just do it right the first time or dont do it at all!

1541 is what Spicer builds their shafts out of.

Upgrading the outers is a great idea, they are far and away the weak link on a front D60. IMO Alloy USA or Yukon (both are a little over $100 per shaft and are made of 4340) offer much better bang for the buck than Spicer.

It also depends on the tire size. I fear for my (non-neckdown) Spicer inner shafts and am kinda afraid to pull them out to see twisted splines or stretched yokes (though I will obviously pull them to make sure they're good for this season, I just don't want to spend $$ on new shafts).

I will never run a Yukon shaft. I've seen guys bust them way to often. I don't have any plans for a tire over 40" so I think the Spicer 35's should be fine. I was planning to go Alloy USA outers and inners but changed plans for now.

78Buford broke a Spicer 35-spline stub on his truck, but the little bearing in the spindle is rides on was toasted and caused a little groove right where it broke........it was also beat on in a 7,000 lb. truck with 42's and big-block for several years. He now has Yukons and hasn't broke them yet.

I also run Yukon stubs and so far, so good. I started blowing 30-spline Spicers on a regular basis (broke 2, a third was twisted when I pulled it for the 35-spliners) and that was on narrow 13/38 tires, an automatic, and stock low powered 6.2.

been running mine for about 5 years now and absolutley no problem. my axles turning stops are actually too short and have tagged the ears a little and still no problemo

As mentioned, I broke a 35 spline Spicer stub. Even if it didn't break, I was going to be needing new front axles anyway, as the ears on all four Spicer 35 spline shafts were (significantly) "wallowed out."

For the slight price difference, I would recommend you buy 4340 stubs rather than Spicer. If you don't like Yukon, buy Alloy USA units.
