The part store that said they had them didn't when I got there. So I got the moog HD . Of course I think I had the only 88 k5 in America with the stock u joints in it. Had to melt that plastic nylon what ever it is out.
Sometimes those factory "injected" u-joints last over 100K--I think the ones in my pickup's rear shaft are still originals...
I hate taking that plastic stuff out before pressing out the u-joints--I had more arm burns from molten plastic squirting out of them when I heated the caps with a torch, when I worked at the parts store and had to replace many weekly for customers in the machine shop--
...it makes changing u-joints all the more unpleasant--like it isn't tough enough to assemble one and press in the cups without losing a needle,or having one end up lying in the bottom of the cap...yeah,lets make it so the mechanic needs gloves and three hands,so he can get better burns!.....all to save 2 cents on a few clips and the 10 seconds to install one on the assembly line..
It's not one of my favorite jobs for sure . I never have bought one of those tailshaft plugs either so I always drop a quart of transmission fluid in one of my wife's Tupperware bowls lol
