Need to replace u joints in my front drive shaft and wondering which part # to run with for stock shaft and non greaseable spicer u joints?

Last time ordered and spicer I used Dennys driveshaft. They seem to list like half dozen or more so figured would ask the pros.

It will depend on what year or better yet which cv assembly you have. Older CVs used 1310 joints and newer used 3R joints. The front pinion joint will be a 1310 regardless of year or tonnage. For a non greaseable Spicer Life that will be a 5-1310X.

The easiest way to id the two types of cv is the clips. Inside clips is a Saginaw 3R. Outside clips is a Spicer and uses 1310.

87 K5 will have to check for clips. If remember right looked like had wax stuff you got to burn out in them still.

Those would be 3R joints. The Spicer Life joint is 5-795X. I have always just got away with pushing those plastic retained joints out cold. They seem to just shear the plastic off and come right out. If you use heat just remember there is a seal on the little ball stud in the center of the CV assembly. If you aren't going to replace it be careful with the flame so you don't melt it.

Good info!

Do you use a press, vice and hammer or like me ball joint press?

Sometimes I use my press but it seems like most of the time its out on the trail so I use a hammer and the trailer hitch.
