 Driving the Blazer home the right front tire decided to lock up on me. Turns out the spindle nuts backed off so now I have a bearing basically welded to the spindle and I can't get the hub/rotor assembly off...

Anyone have an idea on how to get a siezed bearing off a spindle? I tried my air hammer and tried a chisel with a 5lb. sledge only to sucessfully have the chisel bounce back and split my bottom lip open...:doah:

Needless to say I stopped at that point...

Any ideas? Torch?

Thanks in advance.

I bought a new spindle off of ebay for 20 bucks. If you are doing all of that to your I am guess you are going to need a new spindle as well. There is always the junk yard.

im going to guess your talking about the outer bearing if so and the bearing came apart? and all you got there is the race burnt to the spindal you can pull the hub off over top of it the inter bearing will hang up on it but the seal is all thats holding the inter bearing on. then if the spindal is not trash from all the beating you did you can cut the race off with a air grinder nice and easy cut it down thin on 2 sides and split it off. if the bearing is still all there its time for the gas ax and a new spindal.

If the bearing has seized to the spindle you will need a new spindle. I would NEVER trust that spindle even if you could somehow remove the seized race of the bearing. I would be looking either in the for sale forum here or at your local wrecking yard for another spindle. Also you better check to make sure the inner spindle nut still has the little locating pin in it since that is usually what is either broken/missing and causes the spindle nuts to back off.

The inner part of the actual bearing is what is seized on the spindle so when I try to pull the hub and rotor assembly off the outer bearing hits the race and will not budge. That's why I need to get the bearing off so I can remove the spindle and replace it.

I'm not going to use the little washer with the locking pin anymore. I'm upgrading to the locking system from Stage 8 so I don't have this problem again.

Check out www.stage8.com and look under off road products. This should solve my problem once the axle is put back together.

Now to get the outer bearing off...

How good with a torch are you? Heat it up and then hit it with the chisel. Or if you wish just cut it off with the torch.
