So I just went out and my spindle nut is once again loose. I am looking at replacing them, but was wondering if there was another option or an upgrade to the factory set up.

This is on a dana 44 front axle in a 1972 K5... Thanks!

The slick-as-snot option is the Stage 8 X-Locks. They are spendy as all get out, but you set them once and they're done, they don't back off.

Dorman sells a replacement set of the factory style, which might be better than your existing one if the nipple on the center nut is worn.

While there are newer styles for the rears, I'm not aware of any other options for the front.

also when putting your new ones or (old ones back) in, make sure their NOT covered in grease. clean as possible, washer too. grease will hold a very fine gap between the surfaces, then it gets hot and runs out. Leaving the open gap and they come loose.

I had this problem a lot with my old front end. I eventually found setting the inner nut by feel so the hub didn't wobble but also so it wasn't loading the bearing too much then put the outer nut on with an impact turned down that it wouldn't back off. It's not by the book but worked for me for a lot of years.

You probably either have a damaged inner nut (broken or missing pin) or the nut is on backwards or you don't have the washer installed with all the holes in it that the pin goes into.

x2 on simple problem . I have not ever had but 1 time had this problem. and it was from a bad bearing .

x3 on something else/simple wrong. They're pretty reliable and shouldn't need some fancy parts to correct problem. I mean sure they get loose/worn out when it's a 30 year old truck/part, but I've never had a problem with it after I've put it all back together.
