Outer spindle nut on an '88 is spec'd at around 160 ft/lbs. 
It's critical if the factory auto-locing hubs are still in use...

Yep, dana 60's get much less torque than half ton stuff.

If its the inner spindle nut your working on then it should be torqued to 50 ft/lbs. Then backed off, then re-torqued to 35 ft lbs, then backed off 3/8 of a turn.
The outer nut is somewhere between 160-180 ft lbs.
