spinning an IP dry

I want to pre-oil my engine using my starter (no injectors installed). I have already installed my IP.

Is it ok to spin my IP over with no fuel (lube) supplied?

Why not get some hex stock and a drill? Easy enough to pull the vac pump and give her a good whirl rather than pull half the engine apart to remove the IP...
