would an 88 v10 burb have 30 spline 8.6" diffs ?

It's a 28 spline axle

It's 8.5 but the use the same ring and pinion as the 8.6, only difference is the bearings. I did just learn they made a few of the 88 late models with 8.5" with 30 spline axles.

well I may have to pull an axle and count em I guess I gotta rebuild the front outers soon. ill pull a front one then and count. I was just trying to see if it was an easy know thing so I could order everything and drive it to my local race shop for a gear change.

They are 28 spline for sure, I have a good set of axles if you need them, they are yours for the cost of shipping.

A GM dealership should be able to type in the VIN and tell you one way or the other. Tell them you are looking for a new carrier or axleshaft and casually ask them if it's the 28 or 30-spline version.
