I'm fixing up a '71 Blazer and the top is different than I've seen on any of the boards. It's split just behind the driver's seat and has a latch that apparently lets you remove the back part without removing the top over the cab. I'll try to get some pics posted this afternoon, but wanted to throw it out there. If you look at the top from the outside, you can see the split seam that runs from the driver's door edge around the top to the passenger's door edge and has rivits on both sides of the split. In the middle of the split there appears to be a canvas liner between the two sections of top. It appears the front part of the top will remove, as well. It's a little funky looking and might be a custom job.

Anyone seen anything like this? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Thanks in advance,

Tony Johnson

Re: Split top on 71 Jimmy

I've thought about building a custom two piece top for my 72. I'd love to see it.

Re: Split top on 71 Jimmy

Sounds custom to me. I think there is a thread on 67-72chevytrucks.com right now about building a top similar to what you are talking about.

Re: Split top on 71 Jimmy

I got swamped with work this afternoon, so it'll be tomorrow before I can get the pics. I'll get'em as quick as I can. The truck has a full cage, btw... I'm probably going for one of Yukon Jack's bikinis. (damn that's a visual I could do without... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif)

I have never read anything about a top like that before???
Sounds like a custom job to me also... /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

lol

OK, so the memory is the second thing to go... I should have known this was custom from the second I saw it. I just didn't remember it being so unfinished...

Interesting. Does it leak?

No leaks. I haven't tried to take off the top to see exactly how it seals, but I don't see any evidence that it has ever leaked and it's been sitting outside for over a year now.

Re: Split top on 71 Jimmy

It does have a rough look but still kinda cool, I'd like to see it when you take the back half off. Looks like you could clean up that home made latch, mybe even refab one pretty easy that doesn't look so clunky. Still, over all I say pretty cool.

Yea, I'm thinking I might just make a cover for it. Maybe a light fixture with a 9 volt light... Time for some home depot creativity...
