I welded my 14 Bolt FF last week and I think its the cats a$$. You get the chirping thing happening in the parking lots and all but other than that I hardly notice it now. Best of all its easy, cheap and you always know for sure its locked

My 14 bolt rear is welded too.No one makes a spool.THe only thing you have too weld is the 4 spider gears too the u-joint looking piece that they are connected too.Looks just like a u-joint with spider gears on the ends instead of caps.It affects nothing else.If for some reason you don't like it you can just replace the spider gears or put a detroit in it.No it won't effect any future gear swaps.
I didn't even weld up the U-joint thing. I dis-assembled the whole carrier and removed the 4 small spiders. Then in 4 places on each small spider gear I welded the void between the teeth. This way all I need to replace if for any reason I don't want to be welded anymore is just the 4 small spider gears. Then I just re-assembled it and away we go.
I didn't want to put any heat stress on the cross shaft thing, plus this way the spiders will locate themselves.

Hey Shane. If you want, I have extra 14 bolt FF spider gears you can have. This way you can weld them and if you wan't to go back for any reason, just put your old ones in.
