anyone have a writeup on welding on spring perches? just was wondering what good techniue people used to center it up and what degree they set it at. btw my truck has a non-cv rear shaft with a shackle flip.

Take some measurements on the center point of the old perches to a common point on the axle (drum flange) so you can get the new ones in at the same spot, Cut the old ones off, set the new ones on the axle and tighten down the ubolts, check and recheck your pinion/driveshaft angles (if you're not sure what they're supposed to be then read the billavista article on pirate4x4 about driveshafts), check your angles one last time and tack the perches in, remove the ubolts, turn the voltage up on the welder and burnum in. Dont be affraid of double or triple passes to get good penetration if you're not a great welder.

mr. drinksalil has good advice. make sure the new perches have a good fit on the axle tube and are good and stout.
Assemble the axle under the truck, u-bolts bolted on, get the pinion angle where you want while double and triple chcking that both sides are the same laterally from the brake drum/rotor and the pinion housing or center point. I put a line with a marker all the way from pinion to outside of axle tube so I had a reference to make sure both perches were in the same place around the axle tube so I didn't have one side twisted more than the other.
Tack the perches in several places while in place, then I pulled the axle back out and let the welder (machine and guy who knows how to weld) finish the job.

i do not have the perches on there. bought the axle with them off already or it would be easy

Make sure the axle tube is clean metal, put the axle under the truck, center the axle. I used center of the tailgate and just transferred that measurement underneath on bed crossmember, floor whatever I could find and marked center of axle. Centered that under the truck, then lowered truck springs down onto axle tube and marked where spring hit and used that as a guide.
My pinion is pointed at Tcase also, Then lift truck up just enough to put shackles in between and work from there. I even snugged up the u bolts then had them tacked in, pulled it all apart and full weld.
