Hi all. I drive a 1991 Chev V2500 Suburban w/AC. It's totally rust free with 235,000 original miles on the 5.7L. This is the only and last toy I will own in my life. The heater core leaks and I get no blow out the defrost. This heater box appears to have two vacuum pods, a one-way on the end, driver's side, and a two-way in the middle on the back. Anyway there are two vacuum lines connected to that one pod. I wanted to learn a little about the heater box in general and was surprised at how little info there is on-line. I used to own a 1988 years ago. When the heater core went on that, I bought a rebuilt box and changed the whole box instead of replacing the heater core. But not this time. Can anyone tell me the details on replacement vacuum pods, if any? Also wondering how to check those vacuum pods. I envisioned bench testing the box possibly with a salvage yard heater control. That would require some type of vacuum comparable to that generated by the engine. I want to get this right the first time. Any and all info, tips, tricks or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

The system should defualt to defrost, if vacuum is lost. There may be debris in the ducts (pen) that has jammed the mode door.

The small hard plastic vacuum line goes through firewall is probably hard and brittle at this age. This line maybe broken.
You can test the vacuum pods with a hand vacuum pump, or a long vacuum hose connected the manifold vacuum.
