Square Front Drive Shaft?

Hey Shane, did you read the thread in COG about the square shafts? I wonder if Don braking is front yoke was due to too much friction and the shaft acting as one piece?

Do you mean fill the small tube with ATF ?

/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif I think I heard this from 55Willy a long while back, so I am not sure on the logistics. You would have to seal up one of the pieces and have a fill hole though, but could be worth trying, can't hurt...or can it /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

I realize that square is nothing new. It is kinda new on this site as some of the guys have developed more and more hardcore truck though. And the 2 guys that I know of that run them have both had problems with breakage in the rear of the transmission area.

Seems to me that would throw up a red flag and therefore a beware message. I have heard of Jeeps and light buggies running square shaft unlubed with success but our trucks are alot heavier and it appears sofar that unlubed will not work well in our trucks. Therefore they are still under developement on how to get them to work properly on our trucks.

It just blows my mind that all these people are talking about running square shafts now even though sofar in fullsize rock trucks they have a 100% failure rate from members here. I would let the idea come together more, and let the people (which some of the people above may be) who have the skills, time, money, machinery, etc to get it right before I would dive into square shafts. I don't have them so I won't be trying to run square shafts in my truck anytime soon. I am waiting till the bugs are worked out.

Mihac, balls of fire, and there buddy with the flexy blue and white K5 all run square shafts. They haven't said anything about breaking shafts and they run 42's or larger on extremely flexy rigs and run some rocks.

I would like to thank everyone for all their pics. and responses. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

txbluethunder, Micah, and 77mudbuddy all run square front shafts. balls of fire is running them front and rear. I will be building a square shafts as cheap spare alternatives but I don't plan to use them off road to much due to the cost that a failure could bring.
