Suburban transforms into crew cab short bed
Good find! Seems all the work was done before he got it, but I’ll see if he can get some cab measurements. I also asked for close up pics of the sub roof transition to the back of the cab. Looks to be a smooth transition, and it still has sub roof step up in second row, so curious to see that detail.
 
Guy seems pretty nice, certainly helped get pics I asked for. Helpful to see how it was done.

Not the cleanest approach, but did open the idea for me to use the back of the pickup cab for shoulder seat belt mount vs using the suburban shoulder seat belt mount like I had previously been thinking. This would gove the flexibility to move the seatbelts (and rear seats) further back than the factory suburban location.

His Pillar looks to be 6.5”; I had previously envisioned about 9-10”, and I think that is probably still a good number

No update, its just too hot and humid af, no motivation to go out and do anything productive outside, will wait for fall. Im so jealous of everyone that has these massive garages and shops to work in.

Anyways, its always easier to just buy more stuff, so I picked up a set of second row folding captains chairs from an 04 denali. These are in great shape, the price was right and the fold down feature I was after. They also recline and are heated. I’ll see if I can fit a jump seat console between them, but this is a good start. I’ll find matching fronts as well.

Funny, ive seen that truck around on the web as well. Ive been thinking about how to make that work. The cab extension fab work would be much easier, but the door would be harder, and would then need custom glass, and window track. Tube doors would make it very easy, but not practical for my intended use.

That approach would use 2 crewcab cabs, and then i could cut out floor and make flat floor from suburban and add additional in the back. I wouldnt have to deal with the suburban roof height change. Fab work would just be different. Bigger door is more practical, but more critical fab work on the doors themselves and sourcing a company to assist with that. I would love to know what company built that truck so i could see if they would build doors and associated pieces. Would cost more money, but thats an item that has to be executed perfectly or it looks like ass. We’ll see.

In terms of progress on my build, no meaningful progress other than continuing to look for parts. Baby #2 was born end of October, so everything else has been on back burner. That said, further supports the need for this truck. My 4yr old son is excited about this build so hoping to pick it back up later this year.

I think I found the dodge 11.5 i need, just need to find time to go get it. Its a ‘14+ so its rear 4link. I’d love to find a way to run that using factory dodge 2500 suspension parts which would make it easy to source replacement parts. The coils look to be more inboard, so not sure if it will work with the k30 frame, but going to explorer. If its too much of a headache i’ll just run leaf springs.

We are going to be moving to our “new” house late spring/early summer so i’ll finally have a garage, so i’m hopeful that will give me a good space to chip away at things a little bit at a time, and also space to store/collect parts for the build.

Looking at the door, the one part that is hard is the glass, usually when we did stuff like that, it was the matter of finding a donor for the part.
The glass is never a completely flat piece, usually a slight curve so making it is out of the question.
I am racking my brain to figure what vehicle might use that big of a glass, one can cut down a bigger one but ideally you find one and build on it so you can easily replace it.
 
I wonder if the side window for a conversion van would have the right curve. If you did all clear glass and tinted all the parts afterward, it might match like this.
 
It looks like a sema truck from the Instagram sticker. Probably none of it is perfect.
Yea it was a sema truck but someone bought it, so i’d think/hope they made it functional for the sale.

My thinking was since you are combining 2 doors, in theory it would be the same portions of glass from both doors, combined. I realize that isnt something that would be made at home, but wouldnt the profile of the glass be known, just longer, that some sort of custom glass shop could make it? Ive probably grossly over simplified it
