Is there a difference between the two other than the appearance, or do they fit differently? PO of my '86 K5 went nuts with the tail light blackout spray, to the point that he might as well have just used black spray paint on the things. So now I'm buying new lenses, and would rather have not have the chrome, but want to make sure they don't fit differently.

They should fit the same. I have taken OEM ones and removed the chrome strip while mixing and matching parts. Try lacquer thinner on your lenses, the spray might wipe off.

A couple are cracked anyways, and I found a place online that has new lenses for $10/each...I figure at $40 for new lenses all around, I might as well just go that route to get fresh plastic on it, and less chance of further breakage, lol. Thanks!

New lenses do freshen up a rig. Something about shiny, not faded plastic really make a truck look good.

the pair I just bought off Amazon the chrome was loose in the packaging, you had to install the trim by bending the tabs around the lens if you wanted it.

The trim on the tail light lenses is loose on mine now, lol. It's just been so many years since I last played with GM stuff that I couldn't remember if there was a difference in mounting or shape or something between the two styles, and I noticed every place I looked at listed two different part numbers based on chrome trim or not. Usually it seems like the aftermarket would make one part with like what you said, skunked, the trim loose and you decided to install it or not.

FYI, it's stainless. Just like the metal grille trim, sideview mirror housings, headlight retainers, etc.

You can always tell when someone has used aftermarket, because it's rusty. :)

Not sure all aftermarket is chrome, but much of it has been. And poorly done.
