So I am gunna try my hand at this build thread thing... or just a place to show you the trials and tribulations of this IFS wannabe- hoopty wanna be wheeler

its a 2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 Z71 4x4 SSC ...I bought it back in 2008 and it still has me in shackles for payments

so hears how it looked when i bought it

. Pretty nice for what it was.. first night I had it, some drunk guy (i was a bouncer at a bar) decident he wanted to hit the passenger side front fender and crease it.. (no pic sorry)

But i did install a radio that didnt cost me anything

I installed some fire insurance too

Here are the stupid 20" wheels that came with it

I suggest you change the name. Ryokens already claimed Mutt

It came with a Corsca Dual exhaust (I added the tailgate net--my tailgate is in pristine condition out of the elements)

this is actually at full torsion bar cranked

the first axle that left me driving home on the front axle alone*

this is what it looked like after pulling it apart

*this happened at nearly exactly 85000 miles

So I shopped around for a similar axle and the best price I could find around here for that newer style 10 bolt (different spline count and wider and smaller drum brakes then the old style)

would have cost me $1500 and i supply my own brakes and seals.....wasnt about to pay that kind of money for it

So i took the axle out of my '76 2wd race truck ( i can tell about that later if there's interest)

and this is the 1st 14 BFF axle that went under that truck--heres the install

Those were 33" tires on the rims off my 2wd

here are pics of the 2wd that was being built (sneak peak)

anyways, the 14 bff that I put in there got really annoying on the street because it had a full spool in it and attracted alot of attention on every turn i made and not to mention it had 4.10 gears....my front axle had 3.42 gears

So i had to come up with something else...Going on the 3rd axle

which i decided to find a 10 bolt with the same gearing.

I bought a 1986 rear 10 bolt with 3.42 gears and drum brakes and with a gov-bomb in it.

this axle was shorter in width by alot (at least 3 inches on either side)

This time, i spent the time and money to build this right.

New factory cover, new brakes, lines, seals, Bought wheel spacers and I even had the axle shafts drilled and factory 9/16" lug studs pressedin so i could use my rims

this is the current axle that is in the truck, however it is also on its way out.. The housing is a bit warped and cant keep a cover sealed and properly bolted on, the spider gears also click around corners and one side brake grabs for no reason (ive replaced the brakes twice on that one side)

so i am trying to build my newest 14 bff with proper gears (3.42), disk brakes, new perches, done up nice within the budget i can

here are some pics of what im dealing with

and just recently, my factory battery let me down and left me stranded in a walmart parking lot

so i had to buy a new battery

oh and I know my garage is a mess, but this is all the space i get to work on it

thanks,

i still have plenty more to do on it to keep the build going.. --figuring out and e-brake and fixing the air bag light (again)
