I don't appreciate that tone you're taking with me. You have hurt my feelings.
Are those 31's in that pic, on the stock wheels? If so, you did a really nice job polishing them up. Keep up the good work, I think there is a show and shine contest at the Thunder Mountain Truck Fest this summer. Hope to see you there!

Steve, has Interco talked about making a 39" SSR in the future. Just wondering if they said anything to you. Just think, a 39 in a 14 - 16 inch width. That would be sweet.....

Hey Brian, you know even if Interco hasn't had plans for them, maybe I planted a seed. I bet you they would sell big time. Imagine 39" radials, I'd be on them too. Let's wait and see.....hmmmmmmmm

Interco told me that they plan on making a 38x15.5 SSR in a 16" rim size (I think all sizes) this December. I don't think anybody can make anything bigger than a 38" in a radial, not sure why, look and you won't find any.
Also Interco said they may make a 38.5x14.50 SX in a 16" size in December as well, the SX is their bad-ass bias ply off road tire, I may run these if the UAV is not my daily at the time.

I'd go for that size if a 39 isn't possible. At least it should be close to a true 38" diameter than most brands.

Geez Steve, you change your tires more than I change my oil! Not sure about the no one can make a radial bigger than 38" thing, I think there's probably just not a big enough market. You can get 40, 42, and 44" radials if you go to a truck tire, however they're for 22.5 and 24.5" rims and are like load range G or so. An 11R24.5 is right about 44" tall. You could also get a 425/65R22.5, like used on the front of cement trucks. I also had the displeasure of delivering some radial tractor tires on a couple occasions that were for 48 and 52" rims, the tires were taller than me, and were over a grand a piece.

How are those things wearing on the street? Do you have an idea of how many miles you think you can get out of them say with sane driving and 80%on road 20% off?

Neither have I, and you may be right, there may be some limitations as the the feasable aspect ratio and sidewall height with this type of tire.

I ran General M/T's (33's and 35's) for a couple years and many many trails only cut down 2. Went to 36x12.5" SX's for a half-year, loved them offroad but not on the street (shakes and wears quick). Against the advice of my local tire guy (and fellow offroad nut), I went to a set of 35x12.5" SSR's. Loved the SSR's to death on the highway, but took them off the truck after only one month. Why? In my very first 3 offroad trips with the tires (#1, #3 to be precise, a total of less than 20 offroad miles), I cut down two SSR's. Both in hairy-cairy spots. Couldn't trust them to hold air on the trails I like to drive, had to get rid of 'em for safety's sake. And couldn't afford to expect to replace a tire every two offroad trips (these tires aren't warranteed by any supplier here in Canada). Went back to SX's and livin' with their quirks. Figured even with the faster wear, I'll come out ahead financially AND won't have to worry about cutting a sidewall in a near-rollover situation.
Thought it was just my bad luck after thinking about it for a while. Then talked to a buddy at a national offroad shop that sells and warrantees them (who shall remain nameless so he doesn't get in trouble), and was told that my experience was not uncommon at all.
Like I said, good luck. I couldn't keep sidewalls in them. Hope you can.

Hmm, I havent heard about any one tearing a side wall in the SSR but then again it just came out so not a lot of them out there compared to other tires. I think you would have the same trouble with any of the radial tires tearing (especially the taller ones like 37") there just not as strong as the bias ply models, I have only done two good trails with them so far and have not had any problems and really like them but if I do have problems I will report here what happened, I hope they at least last through the summer, Interco said they are working on a 38.5 SX in a 16" and that would be my next tire, I really want a new daily driver before then.

The actual number of sidewall plies really doesn't mean that much, its the makup and quality of the plies that counts. Lots of semi tires have 2 ply sidewalls, as I recall. Its inherent in the radial design.
Steve, I hear you on the daily driver thing. Its fun to drive the K5 everyday, but it definitly gets old.

Yeah, a friend managed to cut down 3 (yep, three) brand new 38" TSL radials in one day, too. We've just got sharp rocks up here, and yes, they do tend to eat up radials. (Even though my and others' Generals seem to survived). But I disagree completely with statements such as greater sidewall protection (from Interco's web site). Trust me, the sidewall isn't any thicker than a General or a BFG.
I'm still gonna stick to bias ply tires for the trails. But I'm going to 44's on my Blazer, which is going together right now. I'll likely get a set of tall radials for the street (and only for the street), though. I like some of the big industrial tires, but rims for them to fit a standard 8 lug pattern are insanely expensive. Hopefully, they'll make the big radials in a 16.5" rim size, too, 'cause I want to stick to that (Hummer rims).

There's a company called Rickson that makes 8 lug 19.5" rims (single or DRW) for pickups, but they're pretty expansive. I wouldn't mind having a taller set of street tread (ie MT) type tires for the street, my little 35s look pretty gay. Oh well, thats what the trailer is for.
