so unbeknownst (sp??) to me i bought a vehicle with one of these installed already.

i think i hate it.
i came to the conclusion i have one, when i was in the woods, and realized when i am stopped and decide to proceed, that if i have anything in my way at all, i have to work my engine to about 4000 rpm to get over it:doah:

can i adjust this easy?
or should i just get rid of it

sorry this is kinda noob

No adjustment, you'll need a new convertor.

That or the trans is going out, if you don't know that a high stall converter is in there I'd bet my money on the trans slipping.

are you trying to climb over stuff in low range? or high? my brother tries going over logs and rocks in high, and when it wont go he shifts back to low. all that happens in high is alot of noise from the 383, and alot of slippage from the trans.
that is a great way to shorten the life of youre trans

how do i tell if the tranny is slipping?

sheesh i HOPE thats not the case....

doesnt feel like anything slips, just hear my engine working really hard to get over small obstacles at a stop.

low fluid/ loose filter? ..crap i gotta lot ta learn:doah:

When you say you're rev'ing to 4k can you actually see this on a tach?

Like 1BEATK5 said, is this hi or lo range? What type of obstacle?

The stall speed is built into your torque converter which is between your trans and motor. To change it you will need to pull your motor or trans.Check the easy stuff first. A high stall speed is more for drags to get the motor wound up before launch

yes high range, i should def try low range, good point, and i cant see it on tach cuz when i put in my new ignition module, i evidently didnt hook up the tach wire back because it doesnt work now...lol

so yer sayin its prolly not around 4k, ya may be right actually

(sponsoredbydad) i guess i have a high stall speed, my turbo 400 is not slipping, but i do remember last summer when i was stopped on a hill, and started to go proceed up, i had the engine pinned for gawdsake ta even get her goin..
i was in 4hi though cuz i wasnt able to shift into 4lo at that time, and had 4.10's when now i got 4.56's . yes i know my 40" swampers are heavy mo fo's, but its just weird that my 350 RIPPS on the road like it was its job..

maybe i gotta git this stall converter the hell out.
sounds like a P R O JE C T

Is this behavior new to the truck or has it always done it?

couldnt tell ya john, i picked it up last year with 3/4 tons with 4.10's and 38's. i took it in the woods at that time and was havin the problems.

this year i put one tons with 4.56's and 40's on, and have the same issue.
but have not used 4low yet..

the guy i bought it from used to do alot of burnouts and had the holley tuned for high octane gas and liked to show off.
b4 i bought it i had him put it back to like 87 octane, i dont do that stuff..

maybe 4low in the woods is the answer.
it sounds like i do have a stall converter after reading all these reply's.

between that and me stallin out on declines in the woods, i gotta lot of bugs to work out. (somethin about lowerin the float..)

learnin!!
