STALL/IDLE PROBLEM... HELP!

Hi everyone, I am happy to report that this past weekend I became the proud owner of a 1988 Blazer! Now that it's at it's new home, with your help, I hope to have it running optimally in no time.

Most obvious concern - When I purchased the truck it started and drove fine. However, it would occasionally stall while idling at a stop BUT ONLY WHEN IN GEAR. It never stalled when in park or neutral. Now, it still starts and drives fine but won't stay on unless I'm giving it gas - it stalls now matter what.

What could be causing this problem? And how would I diagnose it?

Please keep in mind I am probably the most novice mechanic on this forum. My skills and knowledge are extremely limited. I appreciate you guys' patience, understanding, and help.

Thanks again!
- Max

Does it idle nice and smooth? Could be a vacuum leak somewhere causing it to idle like crap, but then runs better when on the gas.

Hi Phil, for the few seconds it does stay on after starting, it does idle smooth.

By the way, thanks for your help and reply with my last thread. Really appreciate it.
