I am trying to help a guy I work with with his '98 chevy. I don't know anything about fuel injected engines so I need help helping him.

So the truck starts and runs fine. Once it is up to operating temp there is a significant loss of power and the truck dies when it comes to a stop. Once it is allowed to cool down it will start and run fine again until it warms up. Engine is not overheating, temp gauge is right in the middle. Problem started recently. Only code that it threw was something to do with the EGR. I do not know the exact code number. Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

code 32, i'm guessing. if the egr isn't working, the intake charge may be getting too hot and the engine is retarding timing to avoid detonation. it would have to be a pretty extreme case of that to actually stall the engine, though.

with the heat we get around here maybe this is a possibility.

Vapor Lock?
Have had it happen a few times, check to see how close the fuel line runs to the exhast.

I'm no where near being a mechanic, but I'd like to offer some advice, please take it with a grain of salt.

The temperature gauge is a pretty fallible part to trust 100%. Loss of power sounds like overheating.

What vortec said sounds very plausible as well!!!!

Vapor lock is really unusual with that FI engine. I would lean toward the thermosensor going bad. If it tells the computer the engine is cold, it will richen the mixture to the point of flooding. Too much fuel will give the lack of power you are talking about also.
