Standard gearing to 3.73s?

Is it worth actually changing the gearing in my 84? I want more power, and I was thinking that maybe going to a lower gear could give me that. I also may go to a larger 33" tire for my next set. I don't know the current gearing in the truck Probably 3.08 or 3.42 if I'm lucky. My friend Says the TC will just soak up the power and I won't feel a difference.

I'd look at upgrading engine components for more power, it would be cheaper. With 3.08's or 3.42's and 35's or smaller, I just don't think there will be enough of a difference to warrant the change. I used to be able to smoke the tires on my '85 with 3.08's, 35's and a fairly stock motor. You would feel a difference with the gearing change, but for that much money and those tires, you could get even more power with engine mods.

I think going to a lower gear would definitely help. 4.10's would be an excellent choice if you don't want too much....

I have 3.73's and noticed a difference when I went from 3.42's. Just my opinion though. I plan on going to 4.56's or lower!

Definetly rear gear if you know someone who can do it or you have the knowledge... if not find a pair of axles to swap in w/ the gears you want. A lot guys who drive on the street like the 3.73's w/ 33's. 4.10 would be good too...
