im gona pick up an 86 c10 shortbed for a DD, right now its got a 700r4 in it, but i want a standard, but i dont want the 465, does anyone know about swapping in a t56 in from an fbody car?

I'm starting to hate automatics too!!

I have seen muncie 4-speeds in many C10 trucks(2wd)and also saw a few of the wimpy 5 speed chevy monza tranny's retrofitted into a 2wd truck(they bolt in place of the TH350,but have the shifter built into the tranny tailshaft)--they are pretty weak--the ones I saw were behind 250 six bangers---other tranny's you could put in are the saginaw 4-speed ,3 speed muncie or tremec 3 speed,a T-10 borg warner,a Doug Nash 5 speed--as for the newer GM tranny's,I cant help much there--I havent fooled much with anything newer than the 80's----...

and I changed my "options" and still havent got any smileys! :(

there is a guy running a NV3500 behind a 250 inline six on 67-72chevytrucks.com, as well as a couple guys using T5's out of S10's, but they don't hold up to lots of power.

yea i live in beverly unfortionatley

i was thinking a t-5 out of a s10 or 3rd gen camaro but those dont hold up with anything over stock motors

i was also thinking about the nv3500 out of a newer s10 with a 4.3 in it,

id like to do the t56 because its a 6 speed and it would be kinda different, but it would be difficult to find one

have you ever seen the movie 'Driver'. (1978?)

that dude is ripping around a 2wd pickup and I think he's got a 4 speed in it

Not that there is anything wrong with the T56, but I'd just look at the NV4500.

Car tranny in a vehicle probably 1500+ pounds heavier is going to be like the 10 bolts in the same two vehicles IMO. Awesome in one, destroyed by the other.

I know the later 4500's didn't have the super low first gear of the early ones, so the gear spacing (you'd hope) would be improved quite a bit over the early ones, which pretty much matched up to the 465 gear spacing, with 5th just being OD.

Besides the fact, 4500's are fairly regularly retrofitted to these trucks in particular, so you know it can be done without too much effort.

Just do a search on google for NV4500.

I don't have any of the windows open anymore, but even the non-ultra low 1st 4500 still had something like 5.6:1 first, (compared with 6.xx:1) going to 3.xx:1 on the second gear shift, so it wasn't much improved over the earlier ones.

I'd go with a Richmond 6 speed if I was getting all serious about a 2WD pick-up...but it's not the least expensive option.
